Sorry, it's been so long since I have posted. Life has this nasty way of getting in the way. And this week has been no less a whirl wind.
The eldest's girlfriend from the beginning of the year was killed on Sunday night in a car accident. No, they were no longer together, but had remained great friends and he is absolutely devestated. As is the 12 year old who was friend's with the girl and her sister, also in the accident. The boys have never really been touched by something like this and trying to get them to understand is difficult and heart wrenching. It's hard and so scary to think that in a blink of an eye a life is gone and a family is changed forever. As a mother and as parents, TK and I doing what we can to help them cope but without smothering, which I admit for me is really hard. You hug just a bit tighter and longer, you run a hand through their hair and you just sit and listen. And try to explain that these things happen and no there is no reason for it. I wish I could do more but I think it is just best that TK and I have let them know we are here.
*No, drugs and alcohol were not a factor, just speed on a winding back road in Maine* Senseless just so senseless. She was a sweet girl and my heart aches for her family.
Five have a cold
Three have ear infections
TK has cough plus cold
I have been to the doctor three times in four days.
And? I am pretty sure I have antibiotic suspension liquid in my hair.
Someone please shoot me and put me out of my misery or take me away to somewhere nice and tropical with a cabana boy named Rico that looks good and lets me oogle him. =)
This morning started out like any other. I came downstairs, the big boys were having their breakfast, Tk was wondering about somewhere. So, I sat down to check the morning news on the computer. I heard TK's car start and figured he was out fiddling with it. We shan't discuss the problems we have been having with said car or the van that decided to die three weeks ago. Nope, nary a word! So anyhow, about 15 min later TK comes in and says,"I could have been stuck out there ALL day and no one would have noticed!!!" ???? Turns out he went to let the chickens out, walked into the chicken coop, closed the door behind him and the latch fell sufficiently locking him in ~giggles~ Yes yes my beloved ~laughing really hard at this point~ was locked in the chicken coop. He has an automatic starter to his car and was trying to get the car to turn off and turn back on in the hopes that one of us would realize something was going on. Need I mention the car is way at the front of the house and the chicken coop is waaaaay in the back? He also tried turning off and on the light in the chicken coop. Uh yeah. The one window he put in the chicken coop; why OF COURSE our chickens have window, why wouldn't they?; he put on the side that doesn't face the house. Needless to say he go himself out by sticking his arm out through the chickens door and used the shovel to unlock it. The 12 years old reaction? "Geez Dad, that wasn't very smart." The 16 year olds? "Dad you just totally made my day." Mine? "Why on EARTH would we notice the lights flickering on and off?"
30 mins later to the mutter of, "I could have frozen to death out there."
Me: Are you okay Honey?
Him: No, I am quite traumatized actually!
Me: laughing really hard.
So, the NE Pats were in the AFC championship game yesterday against the Colts. Now just about everyone that knows me KNOWS that I am a Cowboys fan. Born, bred and all that. So imagine my evil giggle when I got the scoop when I got home from work last night.

COLTS 38, PATRIOTS 34 *does little dance*
I had been keeping an eye on the score at work but when I left it really looked like the Pats were going to win. Actually don't get me wrong, I don't hate the Pats I am just a diehard Cowboys fan ~shrugs~ And it was a good game. The Colts deserved it. In this mornings paper this is a comment that says:
XXXX of Portland, ME Jan 22, 2007 8:30 AM
What can you do? Defense has to stop them and the Pat's D didn't show up in the 2nd half.
I, along with a lot of New England, won't be watching the Super Bowl.
Pffft don't be a sore loser it was a good game. But that being said, muahahaha the Colts won. TK says that I now live in New England and I need to be respectful of the Pats. Uhm yeah, whatever, this is FOOTBALL bud, you stay loyal to your team! AND? I am a RedSox fan now what more does he want? Especially since he doesn't follow sports hardly at all. So pfffft nanner nanner boo boo. Okay, I'm done. *heh*
Knitting? Oh yeah I have been knitting. I am doing this because it is a great cause. Now, I seriously don't do a lot of charity knitting. Not because I don't want to or what have you. I just don't think my knitting is good enough. That may not be the case and I am not fishing for compliments, but when I knit something I take a look at it and think to myself, "gawd my stitches look all crooked? Good gawd my finishing sucks. Etc." But I am actually getting to where I am liking my finished knits. And? It's knitting with fun fur or fuzzy yarn, that totally hides mistakes!! =)
Last night I finished this ribbed hat for TK and I look at it and think, wow that looks good. I admit it isn't the hardest pattern in the world but I can look at it and not pick out the mistakes like I am prone to doing. With everything I knit I can see how I am getting better which I am really happy with. Speaking of TK, this is the 3rd try at making Mr Humongous Head a hat and FINALLY one fits. He didn't think it would. He lectured and said there was no way it would fit blah blah blah AND it fits perfectly! HA!!!
I also have some socks on the needles and I started the Lace Leaf Shawl by Fiber Trends but I have kind of lost interest in it. I am all about easy knits right now and honestly I have to pay way too much attention for ADHD brain right now. =)
Last week A and I were outside waiting for the bus and I can honestly say winter has finally come to Maine. So cold in fact it was 7 degrees while we were standing there. A summed it up nicely, "Momma, it's so cold my boogers in my nose are freezing!" Oh yeah A. you are absolutely right.
Happy Monday everyone *boo hiss* oh and did you know? The Pats lost last night. Ahahahahahaa! Sorry, couldn't help it. =)
This morning over a breakfast of orange cinnamon rolls, TK starts asking the kids who MLK jr is etc:
13 year old: He was a civil rights activist who wrote the "I Have A Dream" speech. He wanted black people and white people to get along.
16 year old: He was shot by some dude that is still in jail and has cancer.
8 year old: He married Corretta Scott King in 1953 ::holy crap he is right!!:::
4 year twit: Hey daddy? Can we go to Burg*r King?
The mind boggles you know?
In a separate note, I was just called to the living room, and given my Valentine's Day chocolate and card. Apparently TK saw that it was the 14th, freaked out and ran upstairs to get the hidden gift. To which; as I am walking into the living room the 16 year old says;"Uhm Dad? It's January."At least he didn't forget this year? It is really sweet but uhm a month early? ~snickers~ Okay its funny but sweet. I did however ask him if he had seen men running around with that crazed, "Oh shit I need to get a Valentine's gift." look yet. He said, "Shut up they have the red and pink stuff everywhere!" So a month early but hey he didn't forget and I got chocolate! Oddly enough, that's my TK. =)

Last night, TK and I quietly rang in the New Year. May this year be filled with more peace, happiness and good health for you and yours.

Our day started bright and early at six a.m. on the dot. Seriously, right at six. ~yawn~ The presents have been opened, wrapping paper tossed hither and yon, and the children all seem rather content with their booty. I managed to get all six knitted gifts for them done in plenty of time and luckily they seem to like them. Go me.
Breakfast has been eaten and now? Man I could totally use a nap. Turkey is going in at noon and the rest of today should be rather relaxing. Should be. =)
I hope everyone is having a wonderful Holiday and are getting to spend it with people that matter most. I hope Santa didn't leave anyone any coal.
Merry Christmas.
Christmas is in a week *wide eyed look* Wha? Holy chit!
I have most of the Christmas shopping done. Just a few things that need to be bought. I have knit up some gifts, but those are mostly for the boys and Miss Grace.
We are having company for Christmas this year. The older boys' father is coming up. Should prove very VERY interesting. Not that he isn't a nice guy and what have you, it's just not a normal Christmas. Or maybe, now a days it is.
Glasses. Gah, what can I say about my glasses. I got them last week and I tell you I am STILL adjusting. Ugh. Me no likey but oh well. It is amazing how much better I see now. It's rather scary to realize how bad my eyesight really was. Now everything has a more "crisp" sight to it. Yeah, very scary indeed. ::she says as she is sitting here sans glasses squinting at the screen, bugger where did I put those things?::
This morning we woke to about an inch and a half of snow on the ground much to the children's delight. To their disgust however, school was not cancelled. It was only an inch and a half for pities sake. What is priceless however, is the seven year old's reaction to said snow.
7 year old *huge gasp* Winter is here!! He didn't bring his pillow but he brought his blanket of snow!
Poetic yes? Yeah, I thought so too until I asked him where he got that from.
7 year old oh, I got that from Sp0nge B0b Sq@re P@nts.
~sigh~
